Expand Your Learning-Style Study Habits and You May Improve Your Learning Ability!

Multiple learning styles and “multiple intelligences” used to develop learning habits are relatively new approaches. Only recently have educators recognized the evidence of brain activity leading to a reevaluation of traditional schooling and an emphasis on language and logic teaching methods. Research shows that once you identify your own learning style, you can use the techniques that work best for you and add more techniques to your style. You can try to improve your learning ability by engaging more of your brain while studying, as research shows that each learning style uses different parts of the brain, and the more we engage, the more we remember.

According to current research, learning ability can be enhanced by developing mixed-style learning habits that lead through a variety of learning experiences. The seven learning styles, or what researchers call “multiple intelligences,” are:

  1. Verbal (linguistic) style. A method that uses words both in speech and in writing. This style is typical of traditional education.
  2. Logical (mathematical) style. A method using reasoning, logic and systems. This style is typical of traditional education.
  3. Visual (spatial) style. A method using pictures, images and spatial understanding.
  4. Aural (auditory-musical) style. A method using sound and music.
  5. Physical (kinesthetic) style. A method that uses touch through the hands and body.
  6. Solitary (intrapersonal) style. A unique learning method with independent learning techniques.
  7. Social (interpersonal) style. A group learning method, with or with others.

We all prefer different learning styles as our study habits and we all have multiple learning styles. You will discover that you have a dominant style and use the other styles much less. You will also discover that you use different styles in different circumstances. There is no proper mix and the styles are not fixed.

Your preferred learning styles affect you more than you think. Not only do they guide the way you learn, they also change the way you represent your experiences through the information you recall and the words you choose. However, there are opportunities to develop skills in your less dominant learning styles and to improve the styles you already use. This has a big advantage. According to recent research, it improves your ability to learn because it engages more parts of the brain for other learning styles and thus you can remember more.

So now you are in a position where you need to find out a lot of information. Maybe you need to improve your high school grades, or you’re going to college, or you have a new, challenging job. Maybe you want to study for a real estate agent license or pass the bar exam. Let’s roll up our sleeves and develop some new study habits.

First, manage study periods that are spread over long time frames.

Second, arrange a study partner or group that accommodates your social learning style so you can gain insight while sharing the thoughts of others.

Third, you and your study partner or group will set a goal to discover and develop more learning styles for your subject by using study techniques for less-used visual, aural and physical styles. Without giving up the logical and verbal styles, the variety of learning will be stimulating and will take away the boredom of learning.

Once you’ve completed multiple learning styles, you should be ready and able to prove that the latest research is correct. in any testing process. Apart from any other factors, the group should be ahead of the game because the multi-style learning process has activated more of the brain and should remember more of what it has learned. Definitely worth a try!

With your new learning habits, you can bypass the educational mistakes of many schools and universities, which rely on classroom and book-based techniques in which students focus primarily on verbal and logical learning styles. We no longer need to adhere to the old rules that resulted in some being labeled “smart” and others “dumb” simply because multiple levels of their brain’s learning style were not stimulated. You now have a good chance to improve your learning skills by developing multiple study habits that will last a lifetime.
