There are five easy ways to participate in the rating game.

First, value your life. No matter what, here, now, you have a life worth living. You are here because of your infinite wisdom and this life is yours. If we look at our life with love, love will return. If we look at ourselves with appreciation, it will return. Straight shot from us towards us.

Second, evaluate yourself. Start small. Can you smile? Do it. Make a list of all the wonderful things you can do. Review what you’ve done every day. Did you pick something up on the street and put it in the trash? Have you ever smiled at someone? Have you appreciated your dog, cat, child, spouse, friend? Do you love everything you claim to be yours? Why not? Gifts, you get from you.

Third, appreciate what is outside of you, what you see, feel, touch. All available music, books, movies – all for free, if you need it. Do you know that other countries don’t necessarily have libraries and lectures and old movies for citizens for free? What great opportunities we have for personal growth, enrichment and fun. Every town in the country offers great trips for little or no cost to worlds beyond our immediate borders.

Which leads straight to #four, which is respecting other people. People who share their knowledge and skills, enthusiasm and hope with us. Slide shows, books, lectures, dances, theater – the list is endless. There are people around us who pick up trash, save wild animals, read to children in schools, tape books for people who have trouble with the written word. There are millions of great stories among us that never make the nightly news. People who are great neighbors and friends, lovers who are kind, spouses who are not indifferent, friends who are true. Keep your head up! Check them out. Pay attention to what’s under your nose. Don’t walk past another person without smiling – unless you’re in a dangerous place – you know where you are and the right thing to do.

Fifth, take the opportunity to bond with those around you. As soon as you start smiling, you will see that people are attracted to you and you will see how they like you, how you fit with them. You have to make an effort to get to know them – if you still feel like you’re good and they’re idiots, you’re not listening to ‘them’, you’re not seeing ‘them’. When you truly see people for who they are, you see community and, in a funny twist, you see your own uniqueness. The more we focus on our feelings, our motivations, the truth within us, the more we feel connected to those around us.

So take a leap of faith. Be gentle. Be generous. Start here, now, with the most important person you know – YOU!
