Lara Fabian – The Nue Album – Honesty And Integrity In The Purest Form
Lara started her career with her own album, showing the world that she is the essence of her own music. His album “Pure” also contains the theme of honesty, pure music means honest music. His English career also started with a self-titled album, which featured the track “I am who I am”. Lara stated that this would have been the title of the album if she had not been self-titled. Being the person that he is and being true to himself means that his music will always show honesty and integrity to the audience. Nue’s English album followed, and in 2005 the album 9. 9 was released, which marked the rebirth of Lara’s music, a process that came full circle. You have once again witnessed his honesty and the purity of his music through this album. Now Lara is working on a multilingual album. Lara has always emphasized that music (and for me especially her music) is a universal language that cannot be excluded by linguistic deficiencies. I think Lara proves this philosophy with the release of her next album.
I have illustrated to you that Lara applies the central theme of the Nue album to most, if not all, of her music. Lara is one of the few artists I know who can develop an album where almost every track is a smash #1 hit. These days, so many artists focus on a single track to promote their album that they tend to spend less time on the other tracks on the album, causing the album to fail. This is what makes people hesitant to buy albums by unknown artists. You may have heard a song or two from the album on the radio, but you have no idea what to expect from the rest of the album. Once you buy it, you realize that the rest of the songs aren’t nearly as good as the singles you hear on the radio. If that’s the case, you definitely won’t be buying any more albums from this artist. Lara is able to keep the audience interested in her music by making each song on her albums a special song, as if each song is an advertisement for her music. After going through an entire album, you cry even more when you finish the last song. Because of this, fans can never wait for his next release, there is always something new, something clean, something honest to look forward to.
Allow me to walk you through each song on the Nue album and show you how amazing this album is. For me, this is Lara’s best French album. I think my motives for calling this album the best yet is due to the success of the Nue concert. It was an amazing show with passion, power, excitement and one of the best performances from a band I have ever seen. Although the show was about the Nue album, it also combined songs from the Pure album. That’s what made this show a winner.
J’y Crois Encore (English: I Believe It Again).
On her album “A Wonderful Life”, Lara wrote the English version of this song: “I’ve Cried Enough”. Lara is an amazing songwriter. If you compare the lyrics of the French version with the English version, you will see that the content of the two songs is the same even if the lyrics are not literal translations of each other. The song talks about pain and despair and how to deal with them through faith and perseverance. The song makes you realize that you can’t change what happened in the past. Lara sums it up nicely in the English version of the song when she sings, “Even though I believe in the future, I keep the past in mind, now that I’m living in the present, I don’t care about the rest…”
Aimer Deja (English: To Love Before).
Lara likes to write about love. He can feel love so beautifully through his lyrics and his choice of tunes. This song has so many themes, it talks about love, betrayal and running away from your pain where only you can find peace and calm. The image of peace and tranquility is beautifully created by Lara’s choice of melody, which has a very calming and soothing tone.
S’en Aller (English: To Go Away).
This song is full of fascinating contrasts. I think there are many different interpretations of this song, but one interpretation that kept coming to mind was that it puts your own life into perspective by moving away from your current circumstances (to leave) and coming back to start a new one. In Lara’s own words, “And to leave as one returns.”
Silence (English: Silence).
The English version of Silence is also featured on Lara’s “A Wonderful Life” album. Like most English translations of Lara’s French albums, the English and French versions of Silence are very similar in terms of lyrical content. The meaning of silence is clear. Silence is your best friend in difficult situations where it is better to keep your mouth shut. But it also refers to moments of silence when you are not distracted by the noise of the world. It is always easier to make decisions in the heat of the moment when there is silence.
Parce Que Tu Pars (English: Because he leaves).
There is so much passion in this song that you get goosebumps listening to Lara sing it. It talks about being left alone, fading away from loneliness. Nobody wants to be lonely. The song talks about someone looking for a savior to break the chains of loneliness.
Je Suis Mon Coeur (English: I Am My Heart).
Although Lara didn’t write this song, she must have identified something in it that she wanted to add to this album. Lara never puts a song on the album just for the sake of the song. The song talks about the fear of being rejected by a loved one, the desire of the heart that causes pain when it cannot satisfy that need. It also talks about the fear of losing the happiness you have experienced, the uncertainty of the future and the fact that you never know when it will be taken away from you. All of this fits into the album title. To be naked is to be exposed, stripped of all your securities and protections, which explains the fear presented in the song.
Tango (English: Tango).
Lara uses a tango dancer and a matador as a lovely metaphor for lovers who cannot find each other, one lover rejecting the other. Belonging to the matador is as challenging as the bull with the matador. The dancer dances towards the matador, but the matador rejects her love by fighting back like a bull. It is a beautiful image supported by a lovely and captivating melody. It’s just a joy to listen to, and even better to see Lara on stage.
Imagine (English: Imagine).
Lara seems to have a soft spot for tribal music. He whispers the song, tribal drums and bagpipes in the background. Lara plays with your imagination while singing the song and creates an image of a paradise of simplicity, peace, honesty, joy and all that is good. It paints such a clear picture in your mind that you realize it is completely unrealistic and impossible in our current world.
Tu Es Mon Autre (English: You Are My Other).
A wonderful duet with Maurane. The duet underpins the theme of the song and I don’t think it would ever have the same impact when sung solo. The song is about two people who are so closely connected that they are inseparable. You can interpret it as two close friends, two close family members or two lovers who are very close to each other. In the last line of the song, the image of the two interrelated persons appears strongly: “And if one of us falls”. Closing the song with this rhetorical statement emphasizes how close the two people really are.
Rio (English: Rio).
Play with your imagination. Lara paints the picturesque landscapes of Rio with this song. Simply lie back, close your eyes and listen carefully to the lyrics (if you understand French) and experience the mood Lara creates with this song. Lara singing this song during the Nue concert is simply amazing. But even if you don’t understand the words, you’ll still enjoy the lively music, the joyful melody, and most importantly, Lara’s beautiful voice.
Bambina (English: Little Baby).
Lara co-wrote this song with Janey Clewer. I don’t know what motivated Lara to write this song, but I think she was inspired by her motherly instinct. The song can be interpreted in two ways: a mother who has lost her baby, or a mother of a grown child thinking back to the times when her child was small. This is one of those songs that easily puts a lump in your throat.
Immortelle (English: Immortal).
This song is a masterpiece in every way. The lyrics, the artist’s voice, the band’s music, everything is perfect. Again, Lara uses contrast to emphasize an idea. He claims to be immortal, but he dies from his lover, his lover makes him mortal. The song talks about how a person is strong and indestructible to everyone, but completely vulnerable to someone who can break through all his defenses and reach the depths of his heart. I like how Lara writes her songs in such a universal way that they can be interpreted in many ways. The fact that someone can break through the defenses can be good or bad. It’s good when a person reaches out to you, but it’s bad when someone uses it to their advantage.
Le Roi Est Une Femme (English: The King Is A Woman).
I believe that Lara was motivated by her mother to include this song, another one that she did not write. I think he dedicated the song to his mother because the song referred to Sicily. But you can also see Lara speaking out in an industry that is mostly dominated by men. With this album, she showed everyone that she can make the music she creates a success, but not because she is a woman, but because she is an exceptionally talented artist.
Lara co-wrote most of the songs on this album with Rick Allison, who also contributed heavily to this album. Lara and Rick did an extremely good job with this album and in my opinion made a killer team when they made music together. The album closes with a piano medley of all the songs on the album. It was a perfect choice for me to add a piano medley at the end. I couldn’t have chosen a better way to end such a rich and invigorating album.
