Top Five Places to Visit in Jamaica

“Life is a long road with many signs. So when you walk the trails, don’t complicate your mind. Run away from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, make your vision come true. Wake up and live!” A famous quote from Good ole Bob Marley!

Like any country, Jamaica has its ups and downs, but I have to say that this place is BEAUTIFUL and still has wonderful people who want to have fun. How do I know this? Well, to be honest, this is the place I call home. In my twenty-four years of life, both inside and outside of Jamaica, I have witnessed some extraordinarily beautiful landscapes. I actually just went to a beach the other day that is off the radar and it’s called “cottonwood”… It’s a sight to behold! On your next trip to Jamaica, if you’re in the Ocho Rios area, be sure to ask your guide about this hidden gem… It truly is a masterpiece.

Alright, let’s check out the top 5 places to visit in Jamaica.

Bob Marley Nine Mile – St. Ann

Give or take, you already know this, but for the future visitors reading this, allow me to enlighten you. Nine Mile is the birthplace and final resting place of the late but legendary Robert ”Nesta” Marley, popularly known as Bob Marley.

Fun fact: Bob Marley was and still is best known for his reggae songs, including “I Shot the Sheriff,” “No Woman, No Cry,” “Three Little Birds,” “Exodus,” “Could You Be Loved” hits. “, “Jammin'”, “Redemption Song” and “One Love”.

Nine Mile is next to a place we call Brown’s Town, St. Ann. The journey to Bob Marley’s Nine Mile takes you through various villages. Be sure to ask your guide to stop at one or, if time permits, several of these villages, as it is a real eye-opener. Here you can experience the rural areas of Jamaica – the real Jamaica.

When you arrive at Bob Marley’s Nine Mile, you’ll probably be greeted by a Rasta man. He is responsible for opening the gate just enough for the driver to get on the building, and then closing it. There is a caveat here. They will surely let you know that the laws inside the building are completely different from the laws outside the mighty walls. What’s so different? The Ganja and herbs grown behind the gates are a sight to behold!

Dunn’s River Falls – St. Ann

The famous Dunn’s River Falls is located on the north coast of the island, right next to Ocho Rios. Dunn’s River Falls is very unique. The sound of the waters rushing down the huge rocks, fresh scent in the atmosphere, lush vegetation! Sigh, this is quite extraordinary! As a visitor to this beautiful piece of paradise, you have the opportunity to climb up or down the falls, either alone or with a guide. Tip, if it’s your first time, I highly recommend using a tour guide as he already knows the place and can show you the footwork, among other things, to get down the falls safely. You will find peace at the top of the waterfall.

Interesting fact: 1. There is not much noise from the rushing waters, only the wonderful sound of birds chirping and singing as they explore the habitat.

2. While climbing down, you will definitely notice some small pools naturally formed by mother nature where you can stop to rest, take pictures or do whatever. Doctor’s Cove Beach –

Port Royal – Port Royal

Once upon a time, Port Royal was a popular place for pirates to come and spend their treasures. It was considered the richest and most evil city in the world! During the 17th century, the British actively encouraged and even paid buccaneers stationed at Port Royal to attack Spanish and French colonial ships!

Interesting fact: On June 7, 1962, a huge earthquake shook Port Royal. This particular earthquake caused two-thirds of the city to sink into the Caribbean Sea! Exactly!

Today, Port Royal is known as “The City That Sunk” and is still covered by about twenty-five feet of water.
History is a wonderful thing. It is said that pirates from all over the world gathered in Port Royal after this devastating event. They came as far away as Madagascar, which is on the other side of Africa.

The Great House of Rose Hall – St. James

The great house of Rózsacsarnok is a very popular attraction among both locals and visitors. This grand house was home to the late Annie Palmer, also known as ‘The White Witch of Rose Hall’. For as long as I can remember, Annie Palmer has always been painted as a beautiful but extremely twisted character. According to legend, Annie Palmer – the White Witch of Rose Hall – took great pleasure in practicing witchcraft, stirring the minds of young white women who came to the island, and most of all… According to legend, she was a born killer as her husbands all died suspiciously! Among other things, of course, but that would be too long to get into today.

And last but not least Dolphin’s Cove – Ocho Rios St.Ann

Dolphin’s Cove is considered the largest marine attraction in the entire Caribbean! Not something! Dolphin Cove is the perfect host for a fun family day out. For an additional fee, you can interact with their marine animals such as dolphins, manta rays (without grooves), nurse sharks and more. I think it would be easier to give a summary of their packages:

o The “Touch” program
o “Encounter swimming” with the dolphins
o “Swim With” with dolphins
o Swimming, hold and feed the sharks and
o Be the “guardian of the sea for a day”

Not only do they take care of the marine animals, they also host activities such as nature walks where you can interact with animals such as:

Donkeys, goats, sheep, iguanas, Jamaican yellow snake (non-venomous), turtles, ducks, birds and more. If you don’t know what these animals are, just search on Google using the image function, you will surely find what you are looking for.
